Aircon Power Trip – What Can You Do ?
Power trips usually come unexpectedly and least expected. When faced with a power trip, most homeowners tend to check their indoor power sockets, by switching them on / off to determine which socket is causing the power trip.
Most homeowners may not realise that a power trip can be caused by your aircon.
Aircon Power Trip Causes
Outdoor Aircon Compressor
As the aircon condenser/compressor is usually placed out of the home and exposed to rain in most homes in Singapore, there may be a possibility that if the seals around the compressor start to wear after prolonged usage, water may sip into the compressor which may cause a power trip.
We would advise that you engage a professional aircon technician to inspect the site to find the root cause of your power trip. If the cause of the power trip was due to water sipping into the compressor, we would recommend re-sealing or replacing the entire compressor depending on the damage caused by the water.
Aircon Wiring Short Circuit
If you have recently washed your aircon and accidentally have water spill onto the wiring of your aircon, a short circuit on your aircon may be possible. When the casing of the aircon is removed, wires connecting from the main power outlet to your aircon are exposed leading to a possibility of a short circuit when wiring comes into contact with moisture.
To avoid further damaging the aircon, for such cases where moisture has come into contact with the wiring, we would recommend hiring an aircon professional to check & inspect the aircon.
Upon inspection & checking, the aircon professional will be able to advise on the possible problem and provide a solution.
For individuals without proper tools and experience trying to fix wiring short circuits on their aircon, it may lead to a damaged circuit board which is very costly to replace.
